Ray "the Preacher" Rod is a conservative Christian, a bowhunter, and a family man. In a world filled with vices, people opining which vice surpasses the other and are quick to judge, compartmentalizing things in black and white and exempting themselves, he is a man who has beliefs and values he holds close to his heart and is very vocal about. That also made him a man with enemies, ones that would stop at nothing to bring him down. Organizations with varying opinions, criminals on the loose, a corrupt federal agent, and a man who ultimately becomes a hero—this book offers insights about societal issues that have evoked different reactions and activism. I love how well the author developed characters like Moses, Carl, Johnny, etc. I mostly liked the character of Ray. His character was one I was skeptical about at first, even though he was clearly the protagonist. He had beliefs that might have seemed to clash, but as time passed, he was simply depicted as a man who was clearly fighting to survive in every sense while striving to maintain his humanity. He was a man who was family-oriented, who had a passion, and who executed it seamlessly.
The Bowhunter by Nobert Negron basically highlights different receptions and reactions the Second Amendment has received, with each group backing up their beliefs with facts that can't be completely overlooked. It cements the point that humans mostly act out of choice and not availability, that life's not black and white, there is gray, and absolutely no one is perfect. It highlights the need for a community, the constant battle between good and evil, and the consequences of choices.
As much as this book gives insight on certain issues, there are sensitive topics that a few might disagree with, especially anti-gun activists, although points were proven to a degree. I'd recommend this to people who are interested in hunting, bowhunting, especially conservation of wildlife, Christians, and anyone who loves to see good prevail over evil. This book was professionally edited, and I'll rate it 5 out of 5 stars. There was nothing I disliked about the book.
